Finding the right products for your bald head grooming routine can be overwhelming. With so many options out there and plenty of contradictory advice, it’s easy to get lost.
If you’re like me, you want a smooth, healthy scalp without the hassle. Over the past 20 years of being bald, I’ve tried countless products, and now people often ask me about my scalp care routine because they think it looks great.
In this article, I’ll share all the tools I use to achieve that result.
1. Head Wash: C3 Head Wash
I always start with a gentle and effective head wash, and so far nothing has beat C3 Head Wash.

Because it’s sulfate-free, it cleanses without drying out the scalp, leaving your skin feeling refreshed.
C3 Head Wash

- Prevents dry, flaky skin and/or oily skin
- Hydrates and restores balance to skin
- Sulfate and paraben-free
- Safe for you and the environment
- Certified cruelty-free, never tested on animals, vegan
- Made in USA
But wait – can’t I just use regular shampoo? Sure. But your wife’s cosmetic shampoo is formulated to keep hair healthy, and you don’t have any. Instead, a specialized head wash is what you should be looking for. Here’s an in-depth post that explains why.

2. Exfoliating: Smooth AF by The Bald Brothers
Exfoliation before shaving is key to getting the closest shave possible and avoiding irritation.
Smooth AF by The Bald Brothers does the job well without being harsh on your scalp. There’s a generous helping of pumice, the exfoliating ingredient in the scrub.

The results are great – my head always feels super clean and free of dead skin, which can clog up your razor and affect your shave.

- Gently removes dirt & dead skin
- Ideal pre-shave treatment
- Doubles as scalp & face cleanser
Exfoliating sound a little metrosexual for you? Believe me, I hear you. But there’s nothing manly about a smelly, dirty scalp. If you’re still not convinced, I highly recommend checking out this article on why you should be exfoliating your bald head.

3. Shaving Cream/Shaving Soap
Shaving cream is probably the exception that proves the rule, in that I don’t actually think you need a specialist bald head shaving cream. The principle is the same, lubrication, hydration, protection.
That said, I still have a recommendation for you. I’ve been trying loads of artisan shaving soaps recently, just because I like to treat shaving and grooming my head as a hobby and try out new products wherever possible.
My favorite so far is this Ariana & Evans artisan shaving soap. It looks cool, lathers up beautifully, and provides excellent glide for a close shave.
Ariana & Evans Artisan Shaving Soap

- Ultra-smooth shaving experience
- Moisturizes and nourishes skin
- Rich, creamy lather
4. Pre-Shave Oil: Pacific Shaving Company Pre-Shave Oil
If you haven’t discovered the wonders of shaving oil, I highly recommend adding a few drops before you lather on your shaving cream or shaving soap.
Shave oil gives an amazing glide and reduces the drag that can make razor shaving uncomfortable, especially for those who often suffer from shaving cuts.
At the moment I’m using Pacific Shaving Company’s Pre-Shave Oil. It was a real breakthrough the first time I used it – I genuinely didn’t realize shaving could feel this comfortable.
Pacific Shaving Co. Shave Oil

- Reduces nicks and razor burn
- Conditions and moisturizes skin
- Clear application for precise shaving
5. Razors: Leaf Razor, HeadBlade Moto, and Skull Shaver Pitbull Platinum
Firstly, I use the Leaf Razor by Leaf Shave when I have the time for the full wet shave experience.

It’s essentially a safety razor and gives me the closest shave I’ve ever had. It’s also the world’s first plastic-free razor, so you’re helping the planet at the same time:
The Leaf Razor

- Minimizes irritation
- Completely smooth shave
- 100% plastic free
- 10% off sitewide with code HAPPY10
If that’s a little pricey, the HeadBlade Moto is a much more budget-friendly option. It has a really innovative design, which makes shaving as easy as rubbing the palm of your hand over your scalp.

The shave isn’t as close as the Leaf but it’s much easier to use, and you get what you pay for, right?
HeadBlade Moto Head Shaving Razor

- Lightweight & easy to use
- Dual-axis suspension for closeness
- Bargain price point

Finally, when I don’t have time for a wet shave, I always like to have an electric head shaver on hand for a quick trim.
No electric shaver cuts as close as a razor, but the Skull Shaver Pitbull Platinum is the best I’ve found for a quick 90-second shave before I run out the door.

And while the Andis Profoil gives a slightly closer shave, like any foil shaver it takes much longer to make sure you’ve shaved your whole head. By contrast, nothing beats the Pitbull for ergonomic design, speed and convenience.
Skull Shaver Pitbull Platinum

- 90 mins cordless use
- 2-year warranty
- Super close shave
- 90 seconds and done
- Quiet operation
- Ergonomic design
- 10% off with code ‘HAPPY’ (US) or ‘Appreciation’ (outside US)

6. Immediate Post-Shave Treatment: HeadBlade ClearHead
Shaving is tough on your scalp. Not only does it strip away moisture from your bald head, but it messes with the natural chemical balance of your scalp.

I always help combat irritation and prevent ingrown hairs with an after-shave treatment like HeadBlade ClearHead. It’s soothing and helps your scalp recover quickly after shaving:
HeadBlade ClearHead

Aftershave Scalp Treatment
- Reduces Razor Burn
- Prevents Ingrown Hairs
- Reduces Oiliness

ClearHead is great for reducing irritation after shaving, but the only downside is the lack of moisturizing effect. That’s where my next recommendation comes in:
7. Moisturizer: Bald Boss by The Bald Brothers
I always finish off my grooming routine with Bald Boss by The Bald Brothers. It keeps my scalp moisturized without feeling greasy:
Bald Boss Moisturizer

The Bald Brothers
- 20% off with code HAPPY20
- Hydrates & soothes scalp
- Prevents dryness/itchiness
- Non-greasy
- Smells amazing!
I’ve tested a ton of moisturizers and some leave a greasy finish, some have a bad smell, and others just don’t absorb fast enough. Bald Boss ticks all the boxes for me.

Final thoughts
