REVIEW: HeadBlade ClearHead Aftershave Scalp Treatment (2023)

I’m always looking for new products to level up my head-shaving routine. So when I came across ClearHead by HeadBlade, I had to try it out.

I’ve used plenty of moisturizers, but here was an aftershave product specifically designed to soothe and reduce post-shave irritation for bald heads.

I’m already a fan of the brand, thanks to the super-cool HeadBlade Moto razor. But is their aftershave treatment any good?

First Impressions

Straight away, the bottle suggests you’re dealing with a quality product. The bottle feels sturdy, and the tactile printed lettering is a nice touch.

The cap clicks securely, ensuring no accidental spills. This attention to detail shows that this is a product crafted with care.

Using The Lotion

The lotion has a runny consistency, so a gentle squeeze will get you enough product to treat your scalp, face, and neck if needed.

The scent is subtle but sharp. HeadBlade has clearly gone for a practical treatment that will have tangible benefits for the scalp, rather than just a fancy-smelling cosmetic lotion.

Straight after application, there’s a brief sting for a few seconds, which is actually reassuring as it feels like the product is doing something.

It does leave a slight stickiness, although this disappears quickly. Still, I’d recommend following up with a moisturizer to remove this and ease any dryness after shaving, as ClearHead is designed to soothe rather than hydrate, as you’ll see below.

ClearHead isn’t a moisturizer per se, but a treatment to reduce post-shave irritation. The soothing effect is impressive and long-lasting, keeping redness and soreness at bay.

Bottle Design

One design aspect that could be improved is the positioning of the cap. It’s at the bottom, which can lead to unintentional spills given the lotion’s runny nature.

The first time around I thought I’d just squeezed too much, but after several uses it’s clear that holding the bottle upside down when you open it is the only way to avoid wasting a good amount of the lotion.

Implementing ClearHead In My Shaving Routine

For the best results, I’ve been applying ClearHead immediately post-shave, followed by a moisturizer to keep the scalp hydrated. Since doing this, I haven’t experienced any razor bumps or shaving rash, which can sometimes happen around my temples after shaving:

Priced at around $13 for a 5 fl oz bottle, this isn’t a cheap treatment. Neither is it particularly expensive.

However, the uniqueness of the product and the specific benefits it offers for bald guys, especially those with sensitive scalps, justify the price.

HeadBlade ClearHead Aftershave Lotion is a good investment for any bald man looking for a scalp-specific post-shave treatment.

The lack of comparable products in the market catering specifically to scalp care makes ClearHead a repurchase-worthy item in my book.

It does a great job of reducing irritation, and the fact that I get a smooth, irritation-free scalp post-shave has earned it a permanent spot in my shaving routine.
